POEM: Words

 Saturday, 09 April 2022

A poem for the 26th annual American National Poetry Month.

Words

Sounds
    single
or in multiples
    discordant
        harmonious

    Words

fragments of thought
    full of meaning
        innuendo
            clichés
            banalities

    Words

quietly spoken
    or in strident tones
        that break glass
            making all present
take notice
    reluctantly, bored, keenly
        hoping to learn something new

        Words

to inspire, enlighten
change the course of one's life

        Words

a unit of language
    that imparts
        communicating
joy, grief, doom, hostility, hypocrisy

        Words

spoken with wisdom
    in comfort
        in provocation

        Words

a call to arms
    the start of rebellions

Words are language we all live by
