A poem for the 26th annual American
National Poetry Month.
Light
It dances like Fonteyn;
it paints like Botticelli.
It smiles like a happy child,
it frowns like a puzzled
professor; it speaks to the
sun and moon, reflecting
their shine and wisdom —
for they are both ancient,
their knowledge as vast as the
world's largest encyclopedia.
Fragile and bold by turns it
multi-tasks like a housekeeper
with too much to do; scientists
depend on its capacity for refraction;
farmers need its warmth to make seeds
grow and procure a healthy harvest.
Light tells us when it is day and we
need to rise and do our chores; it
lightens hearts and makes challenges
easier to bear. Light is the purveyor
of Nature's rhythms, lengthening and
shortening days as seasons change.
Light is what brightens even the darkest
mood, it makes us thrive and stay healthy.
Light is joy, art and gives goodness in so
many ways. Light is beauty and life.
