Ukraine
like a distant sweetheart you
are in our hearts and minds;
we emphasise with your plight
Just as the world didn't ask
for Covid, you didn't invite
war with your Russian
neighbours;
You did nothing to provoke
the wrath, cruelty, crimes
and destruction inflicted
upon you for no reason
Defending your country
with bravery, tenacity and
courage, your dignified
stance is admired in places
across the globe.
Folk of all creeds, colours
and nations stand behind you
in this terrible time of strive.
People of Ukraine
please know we see you,
hear you, feel your pain,
witness the horror and suffering
as though it were our own.
People of Ukraine
we admire, respect, support you;
those of us able to welcome you
to our shores, bid you Добрий день;
may this awfulness end soon
and ensure you're able to feel
safe and loved once more
Ukraine, we salute you!
