will there still be wars,
will there still be sickness,
will there still be poverty?
A million years from now
will there still be fish in the sea, fruit on the trees,
children playing happily or dogs dozing lazily in the midday sun?
A million years from now
will there still be wind and rain,
fields of wild flowers in spring and summer
or trillions of stars in the sky?
A million years from now
will we have fresh water to drink,
will we be able to eat the crops of the land,
will we be bionic creatures with a microchip for a brain?
A million years from now
will we be lost in space or living in a different solar system,
will we still know how to add two and two and not make five?
A million years from now
will we still live in houses,
will we still have books to read,
will we still have artists to paint us pictures for our walls?
A million years from now
will we still know the concepts of friendship, love, truth, honour and integrity?
A million years from now will there still be this world?

Yes, Carola, I firmly believe there will still be all those things, a billion years from now. I also have faith that we will be living, loving, laughing and producing on other planets, around other suns. Earth has about six billion years of life, before it goes nova. Surely in that time, humans will have grown up enough to leave their worst habits behind and expand among the stars. Do keep up the good work, and good luck with your poetry sorting. I hope it gets published. Flo
